Common Subscriber LISTSERV Commands & FAQs

The following are the most commonly used LISTSERV commands used by subscribers to lists. When sending commands keep in mind the following:

All commands must be sent to: listserv@listserv.kent.edu
Replace listname for the name of the list
Type only one command per line in the body of the message, not in the subject line.
Not all of the commands will apply to every list
- i.e. You may not be able to subscribe yourself to a list on your own. A list may have subscription by owner. In which case you need to ask an owner to subscriber you. If you are unsure who the owner is, send your email to: listname-request@listserv.kent.edu which will send to the list owner(s).

Common LISTSERV Commands

SUBSCRIBE listname your name	subscribes you to the list specified
SIGNOFF listname	removes you from the specified list
SET listname NOMAIL	stops incoming mail from specified list
SET listname MAIL	resumes mail from the list
SET listname DIGEST	subscriber receives a digest of messages
SET listname NODIGEST	messages are delivered to you as they are posted
SET listname ACK	sends confirmation when you post to the list
SET listname NOACK	no confirmation message is sent when you post to the list
SET listname REP	receive full copy of messages you send when you post to the list
SET listname NOREP	LISTSERV will stop sending you your postings to the list
HELP	receive a list of LISTSERV commands
INFO listname	receive information about a specific list
QUERY listname	receive your current subscription settings

How do I request a list?

Lists can be requested at http://listserv.kent.edu , under the "Request a new list" link.
(Moulton Hall users please use the following URL: https://secure.mnm.kent.edu/list/ )
Note: Lists can only be requested from on-campus computers.

How do I obtain a Kent State LISTSERV login?

Login credentials for the Kent State LISTSERV can be obtained by going to http://listserv.kent.edu and selecting, "Manage lists that I own", then select "get a new LISTSERV password". Complete the form and wait for the email in your inbox of the email address you specified in the form.

Where are the archives?

Archives can be found in the LISTSERV web interface:http://listserv.kent.edu/archives/. You must have Kent State listserv login credentials and have at least subscriber status to the list to access private archives. Public archives can be accessed without logging in. You can access archives directly by going to: http://listserv.kent.edu/archives/listname.html , where listname is the name of the list.
